If you’ve ever spent an afternoon surfing the web, you’ve probably came across an image of a dog with his forehead pressed against the wall. And if it wasn’t a dog, it was probably a cat.
The most popular thing would be to laugh and imagine how these pets are getting stressed out by bills or all the Christmas plans.
Perhaps you’ve seen your pet do this. And if you did or you do in the near future, your first instinct is probably to pick up the camera and take a picture.
But that’s the last thing you should do. Instead, put your camera away and rush your animal to the vet – because this is the way they are telling you that they are having a serious medical emergency!
There is a tragic reason your pet is pressing his or her head against the wall or another hard surface. The animal is experiencing pain and is “head pressing” to help deal with it.
But while it looks cute, it almost always signifies a neurological problem. As Playbuzz explained:
“Head Pressing” is when the the affected pet stands close to a wall or other hard surface (furniture, the corner, etc) and literally presses their head against the surface. It almost always signifies significant neurological illness. This is a medical emergency!”
These neurological issues could include water on the brain, meningitis, a stroke, brain tumor, an infection in the brain, head trauma, inflammation, and even more.

While we often put human emotions and actions onto our pets, we must step back and remember that our pets can’t really talk to us. No matter how much we engage them in conversation, dogs and cats can only tell us of their pain and problems through body language – head pressing helps them communicate.
Even though head pressing looks cute, it is a symptom of a neurological problem that could kill your pet or permanently maim them.
