Malia and Sasha Obama party with rapper Drake former first daughters scantily clad

Malia and Sasha Obama: From White House Life to Hollywood Spotlight

A few years after former President Barack Obama remarked that Drake was “able to do anything he wants,” the Canadian rapper was spotted enjoying a lively evening with Malia and Sasha Obama. At a Hollywood hotspot, both former first daughters were seen in fashionable outfits—one revealing her midriff while the other wore a striking top.

The transition from life in the White House to navigating adulthood has been a significant journey for Malia and Sasha Obama. Born on July 4, 1998, and June 10, 2001, respectively, the daughters of Barack and Michelle Obama experienced intense public scrutiny from 2009 to 2017 during their time at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue NW, one of the world’s most recognizable addresses.

Former First Lady Michelle Obama shared insights into their upbringing on the Moments that Make Us podcast with Melinda French Gates. She reflected on the challenges of raising her daughters under the spotlight: “They are watched. They had to learn how to balance the unwanted attention, but do it politely. To build their own lives in the spotlight and not be eaten up by it.” She added, “Well, those girls had to be smart and confident and independent straight away, even when they were living in a house with butlers and maids and florists. But I was raising them thinking, ‘You’re not going to live here, and with me, forever. So I’ve got to hand you your life soon and let you manage it.’”

Malia Obama’s journey into adulthood began to take shape during her high school years. In 2014, as she prepared for prom, her father expressed the bittersweet emotions of watching his eldest daughter grow up. “I think it’s fair to say that the first time you see your daughter in heels is a little bit jarring,” he noted on Live with Kelly & Michael. “She’s lovely. She’s beautiful.”

After graduating high school in 2016, Malia took a gap year before enrolling at Harvard University, where she graduated in 2021. During her hiatus, she explored the entertainment industry, working as a production assistant on Halle Berry’s CBS sci-fi drama series Extant and as a writer on the Amazon series Swarm.

In 2024, Malia, now known professionally as Malia Ann, made her debut at the Sundance Film Festival with Heart, a short film she wrote and directed. Her continued involvement in the entertainment industry reflects her growing career and personal development.
